Drawing templet

BidVertiser

This tutorial shows you how to open a part drawing in SolidWorks and create a part drawing template to use each time a new part drawing is begun.

The first thing to consider when drawing a part is the size of the paper and whether the drawing will be portrait or landscape.  This will be determined just after you choose the part drawing option in the software.

The color and type of units are chosen on this template as well as the choice to show hidden lines but not tangent lines.  There are other options that can be considered for your general template, but if some are forgotten they can always be added later.

Another thing to consider when "defining your template" is the precision/accuracy of the dimensions shown on the drawing.  It is OK for the part model to possess a different decimal place value than the part drawing.  THIS DOES NOT affect the accuracy of the model, it only affects the way that the dimensions are displayed.

The final option that we will point out is the choice of first or third angle projection.  The difference between the two are defined as follows:  In the US the standard display is THIRD angle projection which displays Front, Top and Right views, the front being in the lower left position.  The FIRST angle projection displays the Front, Top and LEFT views with the front view in the upper left position.
